Bison Bull Hunt
Bison once roamed across much of North America. An estimated forty million American Bison were reduced to less than 1,000 by 1889. Today bison are considered extinct throughout most of their historic range, but with the thanks to National Parks, ranchers, private groups and legislation there are over 350,000 bison in North America today. This renewal allows for the thrilling sport of hunting mature trophy bison bulls that are withdrawn from the breeding herds.
Our trophy bison roam an immense valley in a primitive wilderness setting with Pikes Peak and Buffalo Peaks in the backdrop. These fair chase hunts are conducted on over 200,000 acres of prime bison habitat surrounded by rolling hills, mountain streams and reservoirs. It's likely to encounter pronghorn antelope, elk and mule deer while hunting. Due to the sprawling, rugged terrain our hunts utilize four-wheel drive pickups and UTVs and sometimes snowmobiles to locate these massive beasts with the stalk being on foot. Bison are the largest land mammal in North America and these lords of the prairie are remarkably quick and smile. When you combine their power with a fire temper, they demand every hunters respect, thus making a magnificent trophy and memorable hunt.
We've guided many hunters to big, massive bulls and most have made the SCI record books. The Safari Club International (SCI) is the best measuring tool and record keeping system for these bulls. Each bull is judged for their base circumference and horn length, as well as the impressive "mop" on their heads which make an ultimate trophy. The average bull will tip the scales around 1,800- 2,200 pounds.
Our hunts are conducted from mid December to the end of February in the high plains of Colorado. Hunters are cozy in a cabin/lodge during their hunt and enjoy the views of most of Colorado's "fourteeners." Guests who harvest bison enjoy the finest, leanest, mouthwatering meat around. Local processing is available at additional cost, as well as a recommended taxidermist for your mount. Contact us for more details on this amazing hunt of a lifetime!
